A Line on a Map, 2018, Oil on Canvas, 70 x 91cm.

A Line on a Map

'A Line on a Map' was painted as the final piece in a short study of a telecoms street utility box on Cliften Street in Belfast.

The box sits on derelict ground and close to contested space at the Westlink.  I was interested in the textures, almost like a map, together with the robust locking mechanism.  The line of the junction between the two doors could be a border or gates at a much larger scale. I made this piece from the photography below with the change of setting the padlock to an unclicked state.  The piece is about Brexit and its possible outcomes.

Selected for the Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibition 2018.
