July 2019.

Off teaching my drawing and painting class in Gleann Cholm Cille. Stormy weather and a great crowd gave us the opportunity to try out new things.

June 2019.

Away off in Inishlacken again on 'The Inishlacken Project' artists residency.  And what a time we all had.

October 2018.

I have this piece just opened in the Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibition 2018 at the Ulster Museum entitled 'A line on a map'.

The painting has been created from a battered street utility cabinet at a Belfast sectarian interface, but is to be viewed in the context of the larger border on the island and the Brexit discussions. The textures could be mapping but the inclusion of the bolt references security with alternate open or shut conditions. The state of the cabinet is left uncertain with the lock present but not clicked.

November 2018.

I took a run down to Dublin for the 'Drawing Dalymount' event organised by artist Dorothy Smith. Works from the day now published as a colouring in book as a part of the memory of this soon to be demolished stadium.

June 2018

I was again privileged to take part in the Inishlacken Project.  Ran with a variety of paintings and drawings this year as well as some art installation work.

Puglia and around

In September 2016

I travelled to the Matera and Puglia regions just at the heel of Italy’s boot.

I brought sketchbooks and materials to allow pencil and pen drawings and a few watercolours. A backpack stool finished the kit.

Lots of time to reflect on how I go about my drawing work and to get in the usual sketches.  I've posted some up here.

July 2016

Published in July 2016 Notations is a collection of eight individual books that together form a folio of drawings, notes, collages, photographs and appropriated images taken from the notebooks of architects who use them as both reflective and reflexive forms of thinking.  It includes work by Tom dePaor, Michael Doherty, Grafton Architects, Seamus Lennon, McCullough Mulvin, O’Donnell + Tuomey and Nigel Peake.  Based on the principle that notebooks provide unique insights into personal worlds of drawing, this publication offers a set of open notations that can be interpreted and experienced as directly as they were drawn and made: unselfconsciously curious about the world.    Published by Gall Editions Editors: Paul Clarke and Peter Maybury  ISBN 978-0-9566293-4-0
