Drawn Collage
This piece was painted from a drawing made in Ostuni in the south of Italy. The work was shortlisted for the 2017 Royal Academy exhibition in London.
I made some pictures in this mode initially on a visit to the south of Italy. They are drawn plein air with elements being added as a reaction to that which has already been drawn. Each describes a place or part of a specific place often in an attempt to make a work which captures a sense of the whole place rather than any singular view. In making them I am content to move about within the space and to rotate my sketchpad as I see fit.
This piece 'Cathedral Totem' was selected for and exhibited in the 2017 Royal Ulster Academy exhibition and was also selected for illustration in the catalogue. The painting 'Blue Valve ' was shortlisted for the 2017 Royal Academy exhbtion in London.
